Last night Whatcom Middle School, a historic School building was heavily damaged by fire probably started by the welding activity on the roof as part of renovations currently underway.  It is probably a total loss and a new school will need to be build of the students absorbed into the three remaining middle schools.  The school building in the past was Bellingham High School until the 1940s, and a Middle school ever sense.
